Compliance with regulations
New compliance standards on effectiveness and competencies

Recently, the ISO organization has launched two new standards with very useful advice for all companies that want to take compliance with regulations seriously, known in the legal world as "compliance". These standards, published in July, are designed to help measure the proper functioning of compliance management systems and clarify what knowledge and skills individuals working on these issues within the organization should have. On one hand, the
ISO 37302 standard establishes how to measure the effectiveness of a compliance system, that is, if it really helps the company comply with the law and improve its internal practices. For this purpose, it proposes a very detailed set of indicators with no less than 48 tables that measure different aspects of compliance operation. With this approach, each part of the system and its overall operation can be reviewed step by step, strengths and weaknesses identified, and useful conclusions drawn for improvement. On the other hand, the
ISO 37303 standard focuses on competencies, that is, on the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that both executives and employees must have according to their position, and even includes third parties collaborating with the company. It not only talks about technical knowledge, but also personal and social skills. Together, both standards represent a step forward for companies to apply the best international practices and keep their compliance system always updated and well adapted to new demands.
